Welcome back to another Adawg’s top 5 of the week. This week I’m bringing you the top 5 saves of all time.
#5 Tim Howard
Tim Howard drops right at number 5 on the list. Let me take you to Everton vs Southampton. Howard jumps backwards at full extension and denies the goal. When watched in slow motion it is a site to see. The ball was about to cross the line but Howard saved it just in time.
#4 Gianluigi Buffon
Gianluigi Buffon comes in at number 4. Italy vs Germany in the 2006 World Cup, Lukas Podolski takes a huge rip and Buffon uses his great reflexes to get a hand on it to make it go over the bar. I watched this goal happen in real time and was impressed on Buffon’s mentality on how he reacted to the shot.
#3 David de Gea
David de Gea comes in at number 3 on the list. David de Gea made an incredible save against Chelsea. Mata took the free kick and placed it perfectly in the upper right hand corner. David de Gea did what he does best and made an incredible save.
#2 Iker Casillas
Iker Casillas lands right at number 2 on the list. Casillas was a very successful goalie and famously known for playing at Real Madrid. While Casillas has had important saves in his career the most impressive one was against Sevilla. Sevilla did a ground cross to the far bar side and Casillas was able to change direction and barely save the goal.
#1 Gordon Banks
Gordon Banks made a fantastic save against Brazil in 1970. Pele goes up for the header and when the crowd thinks it’s going in, Gordon Banks is there to save the day. This save still gets talked about til this day. Pele was one of the best of all time and Banks was able to show athleticism and perform the best save of all time.
