Champions League Preview 2/19

Alright people who would of thought we would get the most boring game of all time in the Liverpool Atleti game yesterday. I think they read my blog when I said there was 2 options for the game. Liverpool lose 1-0 at the Wanda. Also I got nervous we weren’t going to get any goals until I realized Erling Haland is a freak of nature with a cannon for a left leg. Dortmund wins it 2-1, Neymar gets upset. But hey that was yesterday. NOW ITS TODAY we got new match ups people and let get right into this. Champions League is BACK!

Once again I am complaining that they didn’t stagger the start times so rather than being able to enjoy both games you have to pick one and then illegally watch the other. This is all your fault BR you scum.

Atalanta vs Valencia

The match will be held in Milan as Atalanta hosts Valencia. This is probably the tightest tie in this round. If you look closely at these teams you realize that both of them are going to be a cinderella story in the tournament. The question is which one is it going to be? Let’s first look at form because Valencia is a giant slayer defeating Barcelona, getting the draw against Atletico Madrid, but they lose to Granada and drew Leonesa. There is no clear sign to which Valencia we are getting but, the Champions League brings out the best in all Spanish sides. With only 2 wins in their last 6 matches it seems getting a win in Italy might be a taller order than expected for Valencia.

Atalanta unbeaten in their last 4 matches, this is a side that does not get shown up at home. They are averaging a little over 3 goals a match when they play inside the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Not to mention Alejandro Gomez who has been dishing them out all year and one of the maestros in the middle. Valencia have the likes of Mangala, Gaya, Diakhaby, and Wass to handle these situations, but Ilicic and Zapata are a hard duo to hold. If paired upfront together they make magic with 22 goals between them I just don’t know if Valencia can answer for all their attack. Atalanta usually play in a very attack 3-4-1-2 formation that Valencia absolutely need to win the midfield battle if they want to have a shot at getting some points away from home.

Atalanta 3, Valencia 1.

RB Leipzig vs Tottenham Hotspurs

Now if you are a chump who only watches the EPL. Live, breathe, worship, and bathe in strictly English football you are probably thinking this is a great draw for Tottenham we can easily do this. Well you are wrong. Timo Werner the starting forward for Leipzig is currently sitting on one of the top spots of the European Golden Booty race. Matter of fact Leipzig are actually in a title race right now something Tottenham can only dream of so lets get real for  a second. Leipzig is traveling to North London a spot Germans are very comfortable in, although Leipzig has hit a questionable run of form they are the stronger team right now. We are looking at Schick, Werner, Sabitzer, Nkunku, Olmo, and maybe even the American Tyler Adams. That is just too many names for the injured Tottenham to worry about currently.

Now I don’t want to make it seem like this ridiculously one sided game even though Spurs have lost Harry Kane and Sonaldo. These are the two best players Tottenham has so the first question is who is going to play? I believe with the purchase of Steve Bergwjin Tottenham aren’t in too bad of a spot here. Lucas Moura up front, Dele, Bergwjin, and Lo Celso sitting behind him. Then Winks and Dier holding. This is not a bad lineup by any means I think we are going to get a very competitive exciting game that could end up just like yesterday where the team that had no business winning takes home a 1-0 win. The thing is that Leipzig coming in almost 100% healthy and knowing they have been planning for 2 months to come into London and dominate should have you worried. I think that Tottenham even with Lloris back to his usual self are going to struggle. I imagine Jose has a plan and I think he will execute it correctly it just won’t be enough. I do love that Spurs back line with Tanganga, Sanchez, Alderweireld, and Aurier to give us a real treat.

RB Leipzig 2, Tottenham 1

Next week we get a rematch of the 2012 final when Bayern Munich head to the bridge to play Chelsea.

Napoli also hosts Barcelona in their match next Tuesday.

Juventus will travel to France to face off with Lyon next Wednesday.

Madrid hosts Manchester City at the big house next Wednesday.
