It is the most wonderful time of the year. Not because of Christmas, not because of New Years, but because Boxing Day is finally here! Premier League fans can finally celebrate the fact their league is the only league that plays this upcoming weekend. CHiT Picks are going to go a little differently this week as we will not be going into players to watch this week, instead we will be going over every single Premier League game taking place on Saturday in the Premier League. Boxing Day is back so grab your Guiness, grab your Irish Coffee and sit down at 7:30 in the morning and watch some good old fashioned football.
Leicester City vs. Manchester United: LEI +188 <——> MAN +140
History: The two sides are coming off of impressive wins. Leicester was able to hold Tottenham’s Son and Kane scoreless in their affair while United put a beat down on newly promoted Leeds United. United’s game against Leeds was the best I have seen them play offensively all season and the attacking prowess that United have are shocking. The game, as a whole however, was a lot closer than United fans would like to admit. Leeds had multiple scoring opportunities and if they had the finishing quality then they certainly would have been in the game and it would have been a lot closer than the final scoreline. Leicester need to come out with the same fire and mentality they went out with in the Tottenham game. Leicester have not beaten United since the 2014 season and Leicester, unfortunately, have been absolutely dreadful at home this season winning only three matches and losing four. United are a perfect 6-0 away from Old Trafford this season and they certainly seem to be trending in the right direction but I would not be shocked to see a let off from United as they do so often under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
YL’s Pick: Leicester ML, Vardy to Score
Fulham vs. Southampton: FUL +255 <——> SOU +130
History: Fulham are not in terrible form right now as they have tied three consecutive matches (it’s better than losing…I guess). Southampton are coming off a defeat to City. The interesting thing to see is if Southampton can bounce back against Fulham on Boxing Day, especially since Fulham finally are finding their footing in the Premier League…hopefully. Fulham have been absolutely terrible both home and away this season so they have a hard uphill climb to walk away from this match with some points. Especially since Southampton have only lost one game away from home this season. Fulham managed to beat Southampton during the 2018 campaign, their only win against Southampton who have dominated the matchup with five wins in eight games. Southampton should find themselves ahead at the end of the game and bounce back from two tough games against top six clubs.
YL’s Pick: Southampton ML, Che Adams Shots
Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace: AVL -107 <——> CRY +275
History: Villa are coming off a defeat to Burnley last time out which hurt many wallets, including my own. Villa are still trending in the right direction in my opinion and they are relying on their talisman, Jack Graelish. Palace got absolutely shit housed by Liverpool last time out and it was completely embarrassing for Roy Hodgson’s side. Palace are going to need to bounce back as the underdogs against Villa on Boxing Day. Villa won the last time out during the Premier League restart and historically this match has been a toss up so it is definitely weird to see a favorite prior to gametime. Maybe Vegas knows something that the rest of us don’t? Probably not, but we’ll go with it. Villa have been dreadful at home losing three out of six but Palace are equally as bad away from home this season losing three out of seven. The one thing this match has always lacked is goals; looking back through the matches the scoreline has either been 1-0, 2-0, or 1-1. Under 2.5 goals should be a lock.
YL’s Pick: Palace +1
Arsenal vs. Chelsea: ARS +320 <——> CHE -107
History: Arsenal have been absolutely dreadful this season, there is no way around it, they absolutely suck. Chelsea are playing well this season but they have had their ups and downs as they have only secured eleven points in seven games away from home this season. However that is still better than Arsenal who have only secured seven points in seven games at the Emirates. Arsenal won the last time these two sides played in the FA Cup this past summer but the Gunners have trended in the complete opposite direction while Chelsea are pushing for a title at this point in the season. Chelsea do have the edge in their head-to-head matches with thirteen wins compared to Arsenal’s ten wins. Chelsea are certainly the favorites for this matchup and Arsenal have no shot if they cannot find the score sheet which is highly likely of late.
YL’s Pick: Chelsea ML O2.5 Goals
Manchester City vs. Newcastle: MCI -835 <——> NEW +2400
History: Newcastle have only beaten City two times in 21 games with their last victory coming during the 2019 season. City have been playing better of late but they have had trouble scoring goals with Aguero out of the lineup or seeing limited minutes. City should definitely start Zack Steffen for this matchup because Edison is a complete liability at the back. City have been so-so at this season but they are going up against a Newcastle side who are struggling for victories and points this season. City have not been as dominant because of the lack of scoring this season and have had trouble putting away teams. One thing you can count on for this game is the over to hit as there has been under 2.5 goals scored only one time in the last eight meetings between the two sides.
YL’s Pick: Newcastle +2
Sheffield United vs. Everton: SHU +330 <——> EVE -121
History: Everton are trending in the right direction with three straight wins against two good clubs and a club that is flirting with relegation this season. Ancelotti seems to have his team playing the exact way that he wants them to and Calvert-Lewin is a constant threat up front. Richarlson has been hit or miss this season but he may find his way onto the scoresheet just because of the lower quality opponent they will be facing in Sheffield United. Sheffield are having trouble finding the back of the net this season and have not won in their last five matches. In the three previous meetings between the two sides Everton has won two games to Sheffield’s one and under 2.5 goals has hit in two of the three games. I would be hesitant to take the under this game just because the quality of football Everton have been playing of late, couple that with how bad Sheffield has been this season and certainly over 2.5 goals can be hit.
YL’s Pick: Everton -1, Calvert-Lewin to Score
