One week off of CHIT picks and we are back. I hope everyone had a good run last week when it came to their bets for the Champions League, although unlikely because there were definitely some surprises in there. I want to apologize for all those people out there who may have lost money because CHIT picks were not out but I decided to go off the grid for a couple of days. Not to worry because we have some fine Champions League and a Europa League game that may take the cake this weekend. And we are off.
RB Leipzig v. Atletico Madrid: RBL +270, Draw +200, ATL +120 13th Aug, 3PM
History: There is no known history of games between these two sides which could lead to a very interesting match. Both teams have been playing extremely well since the restart with Atletico having the better overall form since the return going from 12th to 3rd in the La Liga standings. Leipzig have done equally well and only suffered a loss in the second to last game of the Bundesliga season to Borussia Dortmund. Both teams have extremely talented squads but Leipzig will be lacking their standout goal scorer and point getter, Timo Werner, as he has decided to part ways and start a new chapter in his career at Chelsea…what a shame.
Players to Watch: Leipzig midfielder Forsberg should be one to keep an eye on. He has had a very quiet and consistent year and is the best player for the Swedish national team now that Zlatan has retired. He does extremely well controlling the midfield but can get lost at times, if Leipzig are going to win he will have to have a big impact and dominate the midfield. Atletico are just solid everywhere but you should keep an eye on the goalkeeper Jan Oblak, he has solidified himself as the best goalkeeper in the world and he can certainly steal matches for his team. Coupled with a great defensive minded coach in Diego Simeone, Oblak is sure to have a large impact and make some spectacular saves.
YL’s Pick: Atletico ML, Under 3 goals
Barcelona v. Bayern Munich: BAR +250, Draw +290, BAY -105 14th Aug, 3PM
History: Bayern won the last match back in 2015 by a scoreline of 3-0 but these teams have not seen each other since. If I were Barcelona right now I would not want to run into Bayern, they have been absolutely tearing apart teams. It has been absolute clinic after absolute fucking clinic from the German giants. Barcelona lost out on the La Liga title and are looking to secure more hardware, but it does not seem promising as two of Barcas first team players have tested positive for Covid-19. I doubt that this will have an impact but it certainly might since we do not know who those two first team players are.
Players to Watch: The Polish Wonder, Robert Lewandowski. This man deserves the Ballon d’or this year but unfortunately that voting has been cancelled thanks to the French Football Federation. I do believe that he most certainly would have won the award and he is certainly going to have a massive impact on this match. He will at least score one goal if not grab himself a brace. From a Barcelona perspective all eyes should again be on Messi as this is his team and once he leaves the club will appear to be in dire straits. The Argentinian Magician, can he produce the magic one more time?
YL’s Pick: Bayern -1, Lewandowski to Score
Man City v. Lyon: MCI -450, Draw +550, OL +1100 15th Aug, 3PM
History: City has not beaten Lyon in their two previous matches as Lyon was able to snag a 2-1 victory back in 2018 group stages of the Champions League, as well as a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture of those group stages. All the pressure is going to be on City this game, they have the hopes of the English football resting on their shoulders and it sure would not look good to get knocked out by a mid-table French team. Lyon, however, does have some extremely talented players and play well as a unit, they may have purposely bottled the French League in order to focus more on surviving in the Champions League and it is mighty impressive. Can Lyon pull another great upset over the Dubai team?
Players to Watch: Memphis Depay. He seems to have found new life in France after his terrible stint at Manchester United. You already know that he will be up for this game against his former Manchester rival…let us hope he can produce some magic and then drop a new album.
YL’s Pick: Lyon ML, Depay to Score
Sevilla v. Man United: SEV +200, Draw 210, MNU +150 16th Aug, 3PM
History: Sevilla has not lost a match to Man United in recent history, in fact Man United has only managed a draw just once in three matches versus the La Liga club. This matchup will certainly bring about the argument between which league is better and the way it has been playing out is the simple fact that Sevilla own the Europa League. It is their trophy and I do not think Man United will pose any threat to them grabbing that trophy once again. United have been playing well of late but Sevilla are a different type of team to deal with.
Players to Watch: I would keep my eye out for Old Faithful, Jesus Navas, this man still has the pace in him and has turned into quite a solid defender who is extremely adept at going forward and creating scoring chances. United on the other hand have a bunch of young talent who are looking to make an impact and you can be sure that the United front four are not going to go out quietly and will certainly cause problems for the Sevilla backline. This is probably going to be the best matchup of this week.
YL’s Pick: Sevilla ML, Both Teams to Score
