I’d like to take a moment to thank Bruce Arena. For if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be so involved in the #ProRelforUSA movement. If the USMNT had qualified for Russia I would’ve been on my merry way content with the state of American Football on all levels for both men and women.
Alas. We didn’t.
Back in November while scrolling my Twitter timeline I stumbled across an account for a brand new football club based out of Atlantic City. The Aces. Their social media campaign was impactful as well as aggressive and I decided this would be my club as I begin my foray into grassroots football in #NonLeagueAmerica.
Atlantic City Football Club, aka ACFC #acesup♠⚽, were established in November 2017 and will begin their inaugural campaign in the NPSL Northeast Region this May. The first ever fixture for the club is a friendly against the famous New York Cosmos on April 28th at Montclair University in North New Jersey. Get excited!
Sponsored by the Tropicana Resort in Atlantic City, ACFC is the city’s first club since the Atlantic City Surf, (minor league baseball), went belly-up several years ago.
Thanks to Club President Andrew Weilgus, Atlantic City now has a team to call their own again. Technical Director Chris Ross of Ross County FC in the Scottish Premier League is bringing over his European football club experience, (from the Scottish Premier League - a top flight division no less!), to our brand new family.
Why would a football fanatic from Philadelphia would jump on board with a club from the Jersey Shore some 2 hours from his home, you ask?
Simple. The mission.
The Aces Family have been committed to getting involved in Atlantic City and surrounding towns from a community perspective. Such a huge endeavor from an expansion club but the mission exists no less.
Before I take up too much more of your time let me leave you with some rather pertinent information. Home games will be played at Stockton University in Stockton, NJ, (just minutes from the beach), and if you’ve got the itch like I have, tickets are available on the club’s website at atlanticcityfc.com.
The first match at home is May 5, when we host the fabulous Bugeaters FC out of Nebraska. The clock is ticking. Get your tickets now!
Chat shit with Stan on twitter @StanWhyte87 and join the movement.
