Oles at the wheel. Sure that is something you may have seen many times over the past week as Manchester United have made it permanent. This decision has come with a lot of praise, and met with reasonable skepticism. From what i have seen a lot of people are more on the bright side of things. I understand it though, three managers since the departure of the Boss Sir Alex United as struggled to even find an identity let alone true successor to Sir Alex.
The new Boss can do a few things this summer to hopefully assure his skeptics. He has already started to reinstate the culture around the club. Fergie time appears to be alive and well, along with the club’s youth making their first team breakthroughs. Enough of boring stuff now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty we all want, this summer’s transfer window.
Victor Lindelöf has already come along way from where he was last year. Luke Shaw has bounced back from injuries, and a lack of faith from a former manager. Ashley Young still puts it all out for the badge, however the club needs to find a permanent right back. Diego Dalot is showing great progress, and i believe he will fill in just fine. Money does not need to be spent on the position just yet. Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones are not long term answers to partner with Lindelöf. Eric Baily seems to be a shell of what he was and cant seem, to regain form. There are two notable players that could work out for center back. Raphaël Varane and Samuel Umtiti. Both are World Cup Champions and Varane has won 4 champions Leagues all before the age 25. The need of pace at the CB position is needed and both of the Frenchman possess it, and they are both threats in the air from set pieces.
Build the midfield around Paul Pogba! Matic seems to be slowing down and slipping with every performance. The future of Ander Herrera is uncertain he is currently in talks with PSG for a contract. United definitely need to sign a holding midfielder, and another playmaker to work with Pogba. How does a French, Italian, and German midfield sound. Now remember i never said this would be hyper realistic, these are just signings i can see that can make a difference, possibly just short term. United could sign Marco Verratti in the holding position, and Toni Kroos as another great passer of the ball. Another interesting signing could be Thiago from Bayern Munich, if Bayern buy James Rodriguez they may not need the services of Thiago anymore. I didn’t forget about Scott McTominay, he is still young, and full of potential, but not an every game starter yet.
I would sell Sanchez for a box of fruit roll ups at this point. Rashford is settling in and has to be the starting number 9. Martial starting on the left. Lukaku can be a good reserve striker or he could be sold, but he is not the starting striker for Manchester United. The big gap that has been plaguing United for years is there’s no true right wing. It isn’t Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard plays better through the middle. The obvious choice in my opinion is Jordan Sancho. The England international has taken Germany by storm this year, and is reminding me of the year Christian Pulisic broke through on the big stage. Another signing that can be made, would be to go after Gareth Bale from Real Madrid. Bale needs a fresh start, and what better way than a return to the League that made him who he is.
This was just a quick overlook at some signing that I think would be greatly beneficial to manchester united. Do you agree, or do you think I’m in some serious denial. Let me know on twitter @GlennLorance.
