Iker Casillas Hospitalized

Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas has been hospitalized following a heart attack, his current club Porto confirms. The 37 year old goalkeeper suffered the heart attack Wednesday morning, when he was eventually rushed to the nearest hospital, expecting to make a full recovery. During a training session, Casillas was said to have reported some chest pain, before ultimately collapsing on the pitch where he needed immediate medical attention.

The 2010 World Cup Winner will now sit out the rest of the Primeira Liga season as precautionary measure, with backup goalkeeper Vanailson expected to fill in for the iconic Spaniard. As one of the most famous and popular goalkeepers during his time with Los Blancos, this comes as a huge scare for the football world. For the sake of San Iker, we must bridge fan divides and pray for the health of one of the absolute all-time greats of football.

More info will soon come but for now it looks like Casillas will make a full recovery and will sit out of training until at least the next year. This will come as a major blow for the Portuguese side who sit 2nd on the table as they battle it out with fellow powerhouses Benfica who hold a slender 2 point advantage.

Casillas moved from Spain to Portugal to join Porto in 2015 after a shambolic farewell that completely disrespected the seasoned veteran for his time with Real Madrid. It wasn’t all smooth for the EURO 2008 & 2012 winner, having been dropped on multiple occasions for an apparent lack of effort in training. He has since rediscovered form and earned back his spot in the Porto first team. At 37 years old, Casillas is the perfect blend of ability and leadership to younger players that Porto have taken advantage of which helped lead them to an impressive UEFA Champions League Quarter-final run.

Speaking for myself and the rest of the football community, from the bottom of every football fan’s heart, we all wish Iker Casillas a full and smooth recovery and hope to see him on the pitch delivering his best in the next season.
