The Top 4

Real Madrid are now sitting at the top of the table 1 point ahead of Barcelona after the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu. The match was electric so many chances in the first half but we ended up going to the locker room tied 0-0. This is when the coaching duel truly began, you see the opposing team’s first half, you make adjustments, we see who is the true tactician. This day it seemed Zidane was the master mind. Vinicius Jr. breaks the deadlock in the 71st minute to give Madrid a 1-0 lead. A beautiful ball from Kroos to set up the young Brazilian. The cherry on top was Mariano making his return after a long injury spell, Zidane decided to give him the final 3 minutes of the match. He didn’t complain just went out there and did his thing and with his 5th touch of the match he added the dagger in the 92nd minute. Madrid get the win, and take their spot on the top of the table.

Real Madrid 2, Barcelona 0. 44% – 56% 12(5) 6(4)

Barcelona are sitting in 2nd 1 point behind Real Madrid.

Sitting in 3rd we have Sevilla in a tight one with Osasuna. En-Nesyri got the goals started in the 13th minute, and then Lucas Ocampos added a second right at the stroke of half time. Sevilla head to the locker room up 2-0. Next half starts Osasuna comes out how with a red card in the 54th minute for Herrera. Aridane Hernandez actually gets one back just 10 minutes after the red, and then 74th minute Sevilla give up a penalty to allow Roberto Torres to equalize from the spot. Tie ball game until the dying moments En-Nesyri gets the winner 93rd minute, like something out of a movie.

Sevilla 3, Osasuna 2. 64% – 36% 9(5) 13(4)

Getafe jump up to 4th place with their 1-0 win over Mallorca. This game was a battle with the back of the net for Getafe. Known for their defense and counter attacking ability they held a decent chunk of possession compared to their usual matches. The lone goal would come in the 67th minute for Maksimovic and it was coming the entire time. The final 10 minutes got hectic where 6 cards were given out between both squads, we even saw red in the 92nd minute. Getafe hold on and get back into the top 4.

Getafe 1, Mallorca 0. 45% – 55% 8(5) 2(1)

Notable Matches

Atletico Madrid drops out of the top 4 again after their 1-1 draw with Espanyol. Espanyol starting to gain some form after an impressive win over Wolves this past week. A Savic OG would get the scoring started in the match 24th minute. Saul equalizes in the first minute of the second half, but they just couldn’t seem to find a winner. A very lackluster performance off the bench for the Atletico attackers. Atletico were controlling the game, but could not get it going offensively.

Atletico Madrid 1, Espanyol 1. 62% – 38% 8(3) 3(2)

Athletic Club get back to winning ways over the weekend with the 1-0 victory over Villarreal. A Garcia penalty would be the only goal of the entire match, but it was a decisive one. This game was loaded with attack just without the final product. Athletic’s defense was the standout here with their young keeper Unai Simon earning man of the match honors. He gets his clean sheet number to 10 on the year in the 23 matches he’s started.

Athletic Club 1, Villarreal 0. 44% – 56% 12(6) 9(3)

Real Sociedad started the match week off for us with a victory over Valladolid. This was a rough game for La Real we wouldn’t get a goal until the 60th minute from Januzaj. A master class from the back line of Sociedad to handle the off night they had offensively. After creating 13 chances with 4 of them being huge must score chances I am sure the offense will be the focus this week in training.

Real Sociedad 1, Real Valladolid 0. 55% – 45% 10(4) 2(1)
