Hello my friends it is still an absolute battle at the top of La Liga. Spain never disappoints with the matches we saw magic, we saw heart break, and of course a whole lot of trash officiating which seems to be the trending topic this week in world football. Anyway let’s get right into this.
The Top 4
Barcelona have jumped back to the top spot after their 5-0 win over Eibar. Eibar finding themselves almost in the relegation zone did not need this absolute master class from Lionel Messi. After 4 games with a goal Messi is back. Messi scores his first in the 14th minute, gets his brace in the 37th, and a hat trick in the 40th. This was just the first half. Now you probably thing alright he’s done he got his hatty he will leave us alone. NO. Messi again in the 87th and Arthur made it 5 in the 89th minute. Absolute clinic from Barcelona as they go 2 points clear of Real.
Barcelona 5, Eibar 0. 69% – 31% 12(11) 9(5)
Real Madrid drop to 2nd place after a dreadful loss to Levante 1-0. Two straight matches of dropped points. Real Madrid absolutely dominated but nobody wanted to score. The officiating was atrocious with two blatant handballs in the box not being called or reviewed by VAR. Morales got the lone goal for Levante which ended up being the winner. An absolute cracker of a volley, tight angle, driven high, what a strike. Aitor ended up with the man of the match award after saving the 7 shots Madrid got on frame. Bad loss heading to El Clasico against Barcelona next week.
Real Madrid 0, Levante 1. 63% – 37% 15(7) 5(2)
Atletico Madrid take their rightful third place spot back after a 3-1 victory over Villarreal. This was a massive win because Villarreal were right behind them in points and would of jumped them to top 4 if Atleti didn’t come to play. Alcacer got the goals started in the 16th minute to get an early lead, Atleti came storming back. Correa equalizes in the 40th minute they go into halftime 1-1. Simeone got his men ready and they performed Koke in the 64th and Joao Felix on his return got the dagger. Atletico takes care of business.
Atletico Madrid 3, Villarreal 1. 41% – 59% 11(9) 9(4)
Sevilla jump up to the 4th spot after their 3-0 victory over Getafe. What a performance by Lopetequi’s men. Ocampos got the lead right before half in the 43rd minute, and Sevilla came out hot. Fernando in the 67th minute made it 2-0, then Kounde in the 75th with the dagger. Sevilla never a doubt, completely controlled the game.
Sevilla 3, Getafe 0. 51% – 49% 8(5) 7(2)
Here is our top four in La Liga.
Real Sociedad cruised past Valencia 3-0 in a man of the match performance form Nacho Monreal. Mikel Merino got the goals started in the 12th minute, and Monreal added the 2nd right before the stroke of half. This was a defensive overpowering physically by la Real but it came at the cost of 19 fouls. Januzaj added the 3rd to make it a rout . Sociedads clinical attack and brute force defense was too much for Valencia.
Real Sociedad 3, Valencia 0. 46% – 54% 14(7) 4(1)
Celta Vigo defeated Leganes in the relegation race also to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Aspas had the lone goal and the game winner in the 62nd minute. Another classic Celta Vigo performance of just taking your chances and finding a way to win. They also got the win a man down since the 21st minute. Played over an hour of football a man down still got the win that is what you love to see.
Celta Vigo 1, Leganes 0. 42% – 58% 2(1) 8(2)
Deportivo Alaves got a 2-1 win against Athletic Club who knows how. Athletic have hit a rough patch of form and Alaves took advantage of it. Raul Garcia scores first and gets Athletic the lead. Lucas Perez equalizes from the spot in the 28th minute and then assists in the dying moments Rodrigo Ely for the win. A 91st minute winner for Alaves to keep them away from any relegation talk.
Deportivo Alaves 2, Athletic Club 1. 44% – 56% 4(4) 9(4)
Here is a look at our complete table. Champions to the top! Relegation Candidates to the bottom.
Barcelona first team is now going to be tested for Corona Virus as the illness has spread to different parts of Europe, Italy being the most recent victims of league play being postponed.
Valencia have just broken a record… for their worst defensive record in 32 years. After conceding 26 away goals (previous most was 25), their most recent performance against Atalanta can help shine a little light on that.
Valencia is going to honor David Villa at Mestalla. The World Cup winning striker was a big part of Valencia’s rise back in his day. One of the few clubs to strike a little fear into Barcelona and Real Madrid. You know I am telling the truth here because they bought him to end that fear.
