We are back people! La Liga returns and we got a little bit of everything. We saw upsets, we saw late winners, unlikely scorers, and I gotta be honest I loved everything about it. Let’s get right into this
The Top 4
Lets see just how close theses top 4 are in the table.
Real Madrid takes sole possession of 1st place after a very boring and goal lacking match against Valladolid. After Casemiro scoring early it was taken back by VAR and everything went quiet for about an hour. With only 1 shot each after the first half, the game left a lot to want. Nacho Fernandez finally gets the winner and helps los blancos leap frog Barcelona to the top of the table. Nacho doing his best Ramos impression on the winner
Real Madrid 1, Real Valladolid 0
Barcelona now just 3 points off of Madrid got rocked away to Valencia. Valencia without Dani Parejo their maestro, were still able to hold off Barcelona. Gomez after missing a penalty in the 12th minute was able to make up for it with a brace, goals coming in the 48th and 77th. The Setien era is off to a rough start and I am waiting for the “we miss Valverde” chants to come in. Setien asks for more time and promises to work harder, BUT will it be enough? Messi shooting 11 of Barcelona’s 14 shots. No goals…. weird match.
Valencia 2, Barcelona 0
Sevilla sit in 3rd after their 2-0 match against Granada. Luuk de Jong and Nolito were the goal scorers for Lopetequi’s men. A master class for Lope not just dominating on the defensive end, but also holding possession and creating tons of chances. This was a Sevilla side the rest of the league should not want to see after their loss to Madrid last week. The bounce back shows how high of a level they want to be at.
Sevilla 2, Granada 0
Getafe is sitting in 4th after a 1-0 win over Betis, that I could not believe they were able to pull off. Betis held everything except for the clean sheet, they had possession 63-37, they led in shots, they led in chances, and even in BIG chances. They were even robbed of a couple penalty appeals. They could not finish off Getafe who are the counter attacking defensive kings in La Liga currently. An 89th minute penalty from Angel Rodriguez finished off another impressive win for Getafe.
Getafe 1, Real Betis 0
Real Sociedad with an absolute clinic against Mallorca. Goals from Isak, Portu, and a Gamez OG. Real Sociedad are cooking that attacking trident of Portu, Odegaard, Oyarzabal, and Isak holding it down in front of them is one of the most exciting attacks in the Spain. Sociedad hold it down at home, against relegation threatened Mallorca. Expect to see them in Europe next season.
Real Sociedad 3, Mallorca 0
DEAD LAST Leganes was able to ruin the day of Simeone’s men. Atletico Madrid are in crisis currently. After a goalless draw against Leganes they NEED to find another attacking option. Joao Felix is too young and inexperienced to just lead this offense without any help. With Cavani wanting to make the move they need to jump on it because this game was trash. After barely holding possession and only getting 3 shots on net against the last place team, Atleti has a ton of questions to answer.
Atletico Madrid 0, Leganes 0
Villarreal took on struggling Alaves and finds their way back to the top 10 in the league. They are in the running for a European spot and this win was 3 more important points. Bacca with a goal in the 10th, we didn’t see another goal until the 80th minute when Joselu got the equalizer. Only for Nino to get the game winner in the 89th minute. Villarreal another team with an absolutely ridiculous attack, gets the win.
Villarreal 2, Deportivo Alaves 1
Now lets get a look at our full table after this weeks matches and a new league leader.
If Pochetino took a job Tottenham would be paid up to 10 million in compensation. With Barcelona and Real Madrid always linking to the Argentine. As well as Espanyol always being linked with a return for Poch could we see Tottenham still making bank off of their
Racist chants could lead to partial stadium closure at Espanyol. Inaki Williams was victim to racist chants, and there were also violent clashes between fans at the Barcelona/Valencia match. WE DONT WANT THIS IN LA LIGA. I am all for passion but if this is how far you are going to go just stay at home.
Real Betis claims against VAR their official Twitter account said “Does VAR even exist?” After a clear hand ball against Rodriguez, just moments later down the other side VAR awarded the home side a penalty to get them the winner.
