Alright people, we are back again with the worlds greatest football league. Tons of action Real Madrid and Barcelona keeping it very close at the top, as well as we the battle for European spots really starting to heat up. Let’s get right into week 22.
The Top 4
Alright so in our top spot we have Real Madrid, they played the rival Madrid in a very exciting derby. No Joao Felix, but Yannick Carrassco made his debut back with Atleti. We had Benzema score the lone goal after a strange double sub at half that seemed to pan out by Zizou. If you told me that Vinicius and Vazquez coming in would change the game that much I would call you a liar. Vini down the side line to Mendy, Mendy with a beautiful bending ball into Karim, Big Benz finishes off the Madrid rivals. Top of the table secured.
Real Madrid 1, Atletico Madrid 0
Right behind the leaders we have Barcelona, Ansu Fati the savior of the day with his two goals, one set up by the goat himself so we still saw his name on the score sheet. Slow start to 2020 for Messi, but only to Messi standards. Rochina did score one for Levante, but too late on the goal to match Fati’s brace. Ansu Fati and Puig are the future it seems out of La Masia, this is the start to matching Madrid’s young core we already see on the scene.
Barcelona 2, Levante 1
Getafe came in with a win to jump to 3rd place, this club has to be the kings of sitting back and making their chances count while closing out games. Damian Suarez gets the first goal, Jaime Mata gets the second from the penalty spot. Atletic held possession 71 to 29 percent. Getafe I would bet money hasn’t held possession in more than 5 games so far this season, while STILL being in the top 4. If that doesn’t impress you, how about Jamie Mata getting his 7th goal of the season? The 31 year old is one of the top scorers for his club, and a big reason why they are competing for Champions League.
Getafe 2, Athletic 0
Sevilla are sitting in 4th place after a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Alaves in a shocking game from Sevilla. Alaves trying to fight off relegation gets a big time point against Sevilla. Joselu actually gets the lead for Alaves in the 70th minute, only for it to be equalized in the 77th minute by Ocampos. Sevilla absolutely dominate this game 14 shots to 4, 10 chances to 2, 74 possession to 26. You can’t ask for better stats from Sevilla besides scoring some damn goals. Being saved by a penalty is not how you want to handle relegation teams.
Sevilla 1, Alaves 1
Have a look at the top 4.
Valencia are sitting in 5th place after their narrow win against the 19th place Celta Vigo. Dani Parejo made his return with a Man of The Match performance. Carlos Soler gets the winner for Valencia assisted by Rodrygo who was rumored to be off to Barcelona. Tied on possession this game was much more competitive than expected. Valencia who had just beaten Barcelona had to deal with Celta Vigo who makes it a competition against everyone. All the stats in this one were dead even, but Valencia saw it out.
Valencia 1, Celta Vigo 0
Leganes another team in the relegation manages to defeat Real Sociedad 2-1. A game that not only did nobody see it coming, but they came back to win it. After Isak scores in the 20th minute it seemed it would be the La Real show, they went on to not create anymore shots for what seemed like the entire game and Leganes took advantage. Omeruo ties it in the 49th, and Rodriguez gets the winner in the 94th minute. Talk about excitement this team will be clawing their way out of the relegation zone by any means necessary.
Leganes 2, Real Sociedad 1
Villarreal defeats Osasuna to leap frog their way into a European spot. Alcacer who very well may be the best winter signing of the year gets the lead for Villarreal on his debut. Hernandez equalizes for Osasuna, until Pena gives Villarreal the lead again. Cazorla gets another for Villarreal from the spot for his 8th goal of the season. He also had an assist which earned him Man of The Match honors. The fact that doctors said he will never play football again but Santi is in La Liga his home country, absolutely BALLING Arsenal fans eat your heart out.
Villarreal 3, Osasuna 1
Here is what the entire Table looks for Spain.
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner leaves the door wide open for a La Liga move, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both having some openings in the striker position he could become a dream signing for either side. Looking at Atletico Madrid they could also use a young striker of his talent. With the winter transfer window now closed we will have to wait and see until the summer.
Garay of Valencia will miss the rest of the season after injuring his ACL. He did have successful surgery to repair it, but don’t expect to see him until next season. It seems Diakhaby will have to take over his role in the center of defense.
News from the Barcelona camp is of course nothing great to hear from a Barcelona stand point. Apparently Quique Setien wasn’t the first choice for Barcelona. He also wasnt the second… or the third, or fourth, fifth, he was the SIXTH CHOICE. Now I know Barcelona were looking for a guy that would be right for them. But to take the 6th choice to try and fix this season just doesn’t seem like the right idea to me.
Gareth Bale’s move to Tottenham is off after the ex Spurs man refused to take a pay cut. Apparently all other details were ironed out, Tottenham even sent agents to Madrid to try and finalize it. However we all know Gareth Bale has not wanted to take a pay cut over the last 5 years, so now that it is out in the open can we get over the whole Gareth Bale thing at Madrid?
Stay tuned for next week we have
Real Madrid vs Osasuna
Getafe vs Valencia
Real Betis vs Barcelona
Real Sociedad vs Athletic Club
Atletico vs Mallorca
