What’s going on people another week of the beauty that is La Liga. ITS SPANISH FOOTBALL. For anyone curious the bad bets of the weekend were Sevilla and Valencia. I don’t know why but I just continue to get played by Getafe. Let’s get into it.
The Top 4
Real Madrid are still sitting on top after a statement game defeating Osasuna at the Estadio El Sadar, where Barca fell early this year. A 4-1 victory for Los Blancos after giving up the early goal from a gorgeous header by Garcia Madrid came storming back. Isco equalizes after in the 33rd, Ramos takes the lead for his 4th league goal of the season, Lucas Vazquez comes on for the 3rd, and Luka Jovic ends his drought in the 92nd to make it a rout. Real Madrid are 3 points clear of Barcelona.
Real Madrid 4, Osasuna 1. 54%-46% 12(7) 10(4)
Barcelona right behind Madrid with a 3-2 come back victory over Real Betis. Another crazy game Messi with a hat trick of assists for the fourth time of his career. Canales took the lead from the spot 6th minute, de Jong equalizes 9th minute, Fekir takes the lead again in the 26th minute, only for Busquets to equalize at the stroke of half. Legnlet gets Barca the lead in the 72nd, which follows with a Fekir double yellow, then Lenglet himself gets a red right after him. Just an all around sh*t show to end the match, but Barca prevail to try and stay with Madrid.
Barcelona 3, Real Betis 2. 70%-30% 8(6) 4(3)
Getafe are sitting in 3rd 7 points off Barca, a 3-0 blowout of Valencia and this one was ugly. No goals in the first half and a pretty decent contest, clearly Getafe was in control of the game. Jorge Molina got the first in the 58th minute to give Getafe the lead, he doubles it in the 67th. Getafe are up 2-0 and Florenzi decides this is a good time to get a red card at his brand new club. Jaime Mata followed that up with a 3rd goal for Getafe and the dagger.
Getafe 3, Valencia 0 53%-47% 18(10) 3(0)
Atletico Madrid jump back to 4th after their 1-0 victory over Granada. A good bounce back for Atleti after the derby loss. Correa scores early for Atletico in the 6th minute, that would be all the goals unfortunately. Game was a dead even match after that first goal, possession was dead even at the end of the match, created about equal chances, Atletico were just lucky to get the best of their chances. No Joao Felix we have yet to hear the latest on him.
Atletico 1, Granada 0 50%-50% 5(3) 8(2)
Here’s a look at our top 4 spots.
Real Sociedad defeated Athletic Club after both coming off huge victories mid week. I was looking forward to this match ever since the mid week performances and it didn’t disappoint. Iker Munain and Inaki Williams had to both be subbed on in the second half for us to get some real action, but Sociedad always make it fun to watch. Portu had the breakthrough in the 65th minute, Inaki Williams answers 6 minutes later only on the pitch for 15 mins. Alexander Isak gets the eventual winner in the 83rd after cleaning up in front of the net. Munain gets a red card after being subbed on in the second half. Sociedad climbing their way back up.
Sociedad 2, Athletic Club 1 64%-36% 8(4) 4(3)
Celta Vigo jump out of relegation and send Mallorca back down after their victory over Sevilla. En-Nesyri started the scoring in the 23rd minute and who knew that’s when it would stop for Sevilla. Plenty of chances and they just couldn’t take advantage. Celta Vigo’s pressure as well as Aspas wouldn’t be denied. Aspas scores in the 78th to equalize, Sisto for the win in the 91st. What a finish, what a blown game from Sevilla. Vital points that drop them out of the top 4.
Celta Vigo 2, Sevilla 1 46%-54% 10(7) 10(4)
Espanyol with a huge win to other relegation candidate Mallorca. Every single team at the bottom of the table is even on points. 1 goal was enough to separate the two, Raul de Thomas was the one to deliver it. 58th minute, nod of his head brings some hope back into the Espanyol fans to turn this season around. 2 points away from safety for every team in the relegation zone currently.
Espanyol 1, Mallorca 0 38%-62% 10(7) 6(3)
Here is a look at our entire table.
We got the top half ^ and then the bottom half.
Hell of a race at the bottom.
Barcelona are still trying to shop for their future Luis Suarez replacement. The names that are getting the most traction at Lautaro Martinez and Aubameyang. With Martinez being the younger of the two I would say he would be the absolute favorite. Not to mention being Argentina can’t hurt his chances either.
Ousmane Dembele sidelined once again with a ham string issue, it is expected he will be out until the end of the season. Another setback for a great talent just waiting to burst onto the scene.
Jan Oblak is on pace to beat the all time La Liga clean sheet record. With only .57 goals allowed per 90 minutes you can understand why. This is just another average season for him, 11 clean sheets in 23 games still has him at #2 in the rankings. He is on his way to history.
