What going on my friends long weekend of football over in Spain, couple upsets, couple expected wins, couple big wins, and a nice little relegation battle. Lets take a look through Week 20 of La Liga.
The Top 4
First things first Barcelona began the Setien era with a win and a gorgeous winner from Messi. Nothing new here Barcelona dominated for 90 minutes doing everything except putting the ball in the back of the net. After 75 minutes and over 80% possession Messi finally broke through in typical Messi fashion.
Barcelona 1, Granada 0.
Next we have Los Blancos taking on Sevilla a 2-1 victory for Real. Casemiro is the unlikely hero with a brace, Zidane with another “creative” line up. I hated, Madrid Twitter hated it, Lucas Vazquez …. Ugh.
Real Madrid 2, Sevilla 1.
Finally we have Atletico Madrid who are sitting in 3rd place even after their dreadful 2-0 loss to Eibar. With a dagger goal in the 90th minute it capped off a bad week for Atletico Madrid after Super Copa defeat to neighboring Madrid.
Mallorca lays a beat down on Valencia who are still getting over the flight back from Dubai I guess. 4-1 victory Budmir getting the brace while Valencia dropped to 7th.
Mallorca 4, Valencia 1.
Real Betis getting their name back up to where they are expected a big 3-0 win over Real Sociedad who have gone cold after their hot start. The old man Joaquin got on the score board, as well as getting a contract extension. The Legend continues.
Real Betis 3, Real Sociedad 0.
Atletic Club also dropping points as they draw relegation zone Celta Vigo. Atletic club did everything but put the ball in the back of the net to try and get the win. A penalty from Garcia finally got the equalizer but 22 shots… sheesh.
Atletic Club 1, Celta Vigo 1.
Here’s a quick look at the table for ya!
~ As you can see Barcelona are sitting on top due to goal differential (+2). While Espanyol, Leganes, and Celta Vigo are sitting in relegation.~
So first thing is Atletico are in need of a strike and Cavani is forcing a move who knows if it all goes down, but I am pretty sure they have already agreed to personal terms.
Parejo is going to miss the Barcelona match which is not great for a struggling to regain form Valencia. Parejo is a league legend and the maestro for Valencia.
Diego Simeone took responsibility for his teams shock defeat to Eibar… Weird its like he manages the team or something. Maybe he played a small part in them getting dominated by a relegation candidate.
Finally Sergio Ramos out injured currently after hurting his ankle in the Super Copa final. He took a night out with his mates after a satisfying victory against his former club Sevilla. Only reason I mention it is because he posted an instagram in an amazing shirt.
Not only is this man enjoying a night out with the boys, but he is sending an open invitation to all attackers “Hey, why don’t ya come on down this side.” Pretty much saying hey look I am coming off a trophy and it is only January someone come down my side I am ready for some action. Best defender on the planet confirmed.
